Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Greg Fisher, Chief Potential Officer of Team UYP, located in Mississauga, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Team Unleash Your Potential is a coaching and online course business. I provide private and group coaching as a certified Clarity Coach. My online courses are mostly leadership-based programs. I work with athletes, parents of athletes, and coaches. I also work with leaders and entrepreneurs.

Tell us about yourself

In late 2020 I transitioned from a 20-year career in leadership roles in the grocery retail and analytics industry to being an entrepreneur and a coach. I'm motivated each day to unleash my own potential and help others unleash their potential.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is helping my clients grow and realize their potential. Helping clients to push through being stuck and embrace the risk and rewards that come with going for it.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Starting a business and growing it to a level where it becomes financially viable is difficult. In fact, it often feels as though the universe, including the government, would rather you just get a job. Pushing through those lows and being resilient and committed can sometimes be hard.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Give yourself enough time to succeed. The first years are the hardest and leanest. If you're expecting quick success, you may be disappointed. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it is rare.
  2. Don't be a lone wolf. Whether it's your life partner, a friend, or a business partner, having someone to speak with regularly is essential. Someone who listens and supports you but also someone who can tell you like it is and give honest feedback. I've had a former work colleague who has been an essential resource for me through my journey.
  3. Hire a coach. As a coach, this may seem self-serving, but it's not. This may be a life coach, a business coach, or a sales/marketing coach. What I'm pointing to here is that there are going to be areas where you need help and expertise. A coach can provide that and so much more.
