Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Regina Taylor, Co-Founder of Taylor Homemade, located in Baltimore, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Taylor Homemade specializes in 100% natural herbs, spices, and sauces. Our products are made without using chemicals, preservatives, or dyes.

Tell us about yourself

My business was created over 10 years ago. I was a mom trying to fix a mom issue. My daughter wanted to participate in sports, but her doctor disagreed because of her asthma. After doing research, I found that the ingredients used in a lot of processed foods can contribute to the effects of several illnesses, including asthma. At that moment, I changed our eating habits, and in doing so, I started to create my own spices. Several years later, my wife, daughter, and best friends gave me the courage I needed to share my spices with the world. If it wasn't for my daughter, Taylor Homemade would not be in existence. She motivated me then, and she still does now.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was stepping out of faith and opening a store location. It was a dream that I didn't think I could make a reality, but I did it.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest part of being a business owner is time. Between my career, my family, and my business, time is a luxury.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just do it! Yes, it's a chance you will fail, but what if you succeed?
  2. Utilize platforms such as Squarespace, Wix, and Shopify. As well as the affordable marketing that Facebook and Instagram offer businesses.
  3. Be true to yourself and your brand.
