What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a professional astrologer, tarot card reader, and psychic specializing in corporate events and personal readings for 30+ years. My customers are from every walk of life, from Fortune 500 Companies to lawyers, doctors, and every culture and age group from 5 to 90.
Tell us about yourself
I was born naturally psychic and have been interested in learning about metaphysics, symbolism, art, mythology, archeology, psychotherapy, astrology, and tarot since I was a teen. I studied with spiritual teachers from diverse backgrounds for many years, Tibetan Buddhist lamas and shamans, and am a certified Transformational Psychotherapist. I was thrown into the corporate tarot reading worked by my spiritual Tarot teacher in 1991. I love meeting people from diverse backgrounds. I also love helping people and guiding every client to greater clarity and empowerment. Being psychic and reading tarot and astrology is a therapeutic field on a one-on-one basis.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I built this business myself and am proud to be successful for so long. I am proud to be a professional in this field for over thirty years now. Astrology and Tarot were not mainstream at all when I started out. I have always worked against the "fortune teller gypsy" reputation and endeavoured to make these mystical tools deeply healing, practical and valuable. I am still a one-woman operation. I pride myself on being ethical, honest and providing content that helps guide people.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As a one-woman operation, I have to wear many hats, although I love hats. I have to write original content for my blog daily, create and post content, do workshops, and handle all the bookings for myself. I have a Psychic talent Agency that sends other readers and entertainers to events. I am also a mom of two grown children and married, so there are also family things to deal with. I have a very supportive family, and our daughter, who lives with us, assists me with some tech stuff, as does my husband. I couldn't do it all without their support.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
It's much easier today to start and run a business now than ever because of tech and automation tools. You will have to work more hours as an independent business person than on a job, but it's absolutely worth it to do what you love and have freedom. Social media is key and crucial. You must find your own niche and work that. Know what the others in your field are doing and take note. Make sure you take time off from being on computers; it's essential to meditate and stay in touch with nature. The web is very addicting. Develop your own spiritual practice to balance your life.
