A Taste of Community - Tallio’s Coffee & Tea

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Olton Rensch, founder of Tallio’s Coffee & Tea, located in San Francisco, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Tallio’s Coffee & Tea is a coffee roaster and retailer focusing on bringing specialty, quality, high-end coffee, and savory food to historically ethnically diverse communities.

Tell us about yourself

I wanted to increase access to high-quality coffee in historically ethnically diverse communities because, over and over, I noticed that there is a lack of quality products and services in these communities. We often travel to other communities and spend and spend, but when it comes to our community, it is the opposite. This motivated me to open Tallio’s Coffee & Tea and have others come to our community.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We have one store open and looking for other communities to increase access to high-quality coffee, place Tallio’s Coffee & Tea in the community, and provide employment and education opportunities to the people within the community.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The startup is the hardest part. Getting permits!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a purpose/mission.
  2. Sell your idea and be passionate about it.
  3. Know your number. Do your research.
