Move Your Career Forward - Tactical Search & Recruitment

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in staffing and recruiting but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jim Finucan, Founder and CEO of Tactical Search & Recruitment, located in Merrill, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a search firm that identifies, qualifies, and recruits top-level candidates for the banking and finance industry. Our customers are banks with needs for people in executive-level roles.

Tell us about yourself

I have been in search and placement for over twenty years. I'm motivated by the possibility of interacting with people who are in need of career assistance and matching them with my clients who find the talent I provide gives them the ability to help their organization reach new levels of growth, production, and success.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have been self-employed for 16 years and have seen many changes, challenges, and triumphs. I have authored five books in my evening time and one that helps people prepare for interviews, entitled Interview Strategy: The Next Move is Yours. I am an award-winning recruiter, but my real accomplishment is helping people advance their careers and find fulfillment through proper employment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The taxes that I have to pay and the increased insurance cost make it challenging to grow the business and hire more staff.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Write a business plan that anticipates all the challenges you will face and have a contingency plan for such. Pray to God for guidance, and don't listen to the naysayers; doubters are a dime a dozen. Attack the plan and work hard, as everything depends on it, and so what does it matter anyway if you're the owner of the business or not? Go get it!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I have written a memoir entitled Wild Counselor: 1977- The Summer of the Hunt. It's about when I was 11 years old and spent the summer hanging with my dad, who was a successful attorney but had an emotional breakdown with severe depression and was homeless. (think Stand by Me meets Lord of the Flies) the proceeds for the book go to the Mac Home homeless shelter, of which I am on the board. Check it out, please.
