Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and  but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Clifft, Owner of MTH Management, LLC dba Tacos 4 Life, located in Collierville, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a fast-casual Taco Grill restaurant with a mission to provide a meal for a hungry child in need with every meal purchased. I serve guests from Collierville, where I'm located, as well as the broader county and even Mississippi.

Tell us about yourself

I started my career with McDonald's, growing within the company and ending up as the Director of Operations in over 70 restaurants. On a trip with my family, I first visited Tacos 4 Life in Arkansas and realized the atmosphere and mission were something I wanted to be a part of, so I reached out to become a part of the Tacos 4 Life team.

As for motivation each day, I enjoy knowing that I am helping to serve hungry children and getting to see my team and my guests. I have a lot of regulars that I feel I have personally connected with.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am the first franchisee and only female operator at Tacos 4 Life. I also opened my restaurant at the beginning of the pandemic and have been able to maintain my business despite the difficulties of managing the current economy.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Making sure to stay competitive and current with all of the changes in the restaurant industry. It's a challenge to make sure I'm taking advantage of all of the resources at my disposal while also managing the day-to-day needs of running a restaurant.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The first tip I would give is to make sure to look into all of the accounting and tax preparation needed to run your business because there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes.

The second is to always choose team members that fit your goals and needs and not just hire a body to fill a role. Your team is the key to your success.

The third would be to have patience, as there will be a lot of sleepless nights.
