Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tabitha Sweeney, a female empowerment coach, podcaster, and motivational speaker, based in Buffalo, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I help women overcome imposter syndrome in any area of their life. Imposter syndrome is that voice inside your head that tells you that you aren't good enough. She makes you question yourself, your intentions, and your abilities.
Tell us about yourself
My career started in the fitness industry back in 2012. At that time, I was a stereotypical personal trainer who was young and not yet a mother. I pushed my clients hard and believed everyone should want a rock-hard body and a 300-pound deadlift. Once I got married and had children, my entire perspective shifted. I also experienced a huge hole in the industry. One where women were constantly being put down and expected to do more.
In 2015 I began coaching moms in fitness with a commitment to change the definition of fitness. I wanted moms to feel proud of themselves and know they never needed a rock-hard body again because soft curves are beautiful and strong. Once COVID hit and my facility was closed, I transitioned into online mindset coaching. I learned that fitness was only the tool I was using, but the power I had was in the conversations we were having. In fact, without fitness being available, I continued to watch women overcome huge obstacles in their lives. My passion for this overflows.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment, I think, is finding a way to pivot and adapt the business when the world was burning during COVID.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things for me to learn as a business owner was to shut out all the noise of everyone who wants to give advice, criticisms, and more. I had to learn how to go deeper and trust myself in order to drown out the noise because everyone wants to give advice. Most of them are people who will never take the risk to have their own business, and yet they think they can do it better.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Hire a business coach.
- Remember that if you don't believe in yourself, no one else will buy in. Your belief is one of the MOST important things out there.
- Just start. It will never be perfect, and you'll never feel ready - just launch.
