What's your business, and who are your customers?
We make luxury personal care products that pamper you from head to toe. Our customers are women and men looking for a natural product that delivers that "Home Spa" feeling without any of the nasty chemicals found in the majority of commercial products on the market.
Tell us about yourself
Getting unexpectedly laid off from my job prompted me to turn to my hobby of soap making and turn it into a business. My "Why," however, evolved into creating premium products that care for your skin without the false promises of turning back the clock. There is nothing "Anti" about aging, and I'm here to fight against that marketing message that has been mostly pointed at women.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My products are really something you need to experience, so I decided to ask a local restaurant if I could put my soap in their restroom. Within two days, I knew I was onto something. We now have over 30 restaurants using our soap and are looking for more. It's a win/win marketing move with the restaurant pleasing their guests with high-quality soap and the customer ordering soap for their home. We have had many online orders while the guest is waiting for their entrée or dessert.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
There's no longer the differentiation between weekdays and weekends. I am always working. But I am creating something I am truly passionate about, which no longer makes it work. It's who I am.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't try to be everything to everyone, and focus on a niche.
- Don't purchase a business course. Just follow Gary Vaynerchuk on all social media channels and take his advice.
- If you are an e-commerce business, don't waste what little resources you may have to build a custom website. Shopify is the best and most professional place to host your store.
No, Gary and Shopify are not paying me to say this, lol!
