Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brett Johnson, Co-Founder, and CEO of SwitchedOn Training Inc., located in Zion, IL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
SwitchedOn is a Perceptual-Cognitive-Motor (PCM) training app helping optimize human performance by engaging both the brain and body using just your mobile device. The SwitchedOn app provides randomized visual and audio cues that users react to with physical actions, creating a fun and engaging training experience that improves speed, agility, decision-making skills, reaction time, and coordination. It's designed for all ages and fitness levels and is perfect for sports and fitness training, rehabilitation and physical therapy, tactical training for emergency services, security, and military, and as a cognitive treatment for neurological disorders. It's being used in over 200 countries and is trusted by professional athletes and coaches in over ten major sports leagues like the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLS, MLB, and several pro soccer teams.
Tell us about yourself
After getting a degree in neuroscience, I was able to play soccer professionally and was always looking for ways to take my game to the next level. One of the biggest problems I had was not being able to incorporate this reactive/cognitive component into my individual training, and I knew if I could create an accessible way to do this, I could help the millions of other ambitious athletes like me worldwide elevate their performance. On top of that, knowing that we are creating an effective and accessible way to enhance rehabilitation/injury prevention routines, improve the readiness of military/first responders, and even improve long-term brain health is what motivates me every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being able to help so many people enhance the connection between their brain and body.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Dealing with the uncertainty and loneliness that naturally comes with entrepreneurship.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
