Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Corey Haines, Co-Founder of SwipeWell, located in San Diego, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
SwipeWell helps marketers build a swipe file they'll actually use. It's the only tool dedicated to helping you save, organize, and reference marketing examples (so you never feel stumped). Marketers at all sorts of companies and roles use it to screenshot websites, save ads and emails, and store copywriting examples.
Tell us about yourself
It all started when I was building out an affiliate program for a tech company and realized that I had no idea what should go on the landing page to recruit affiliates. I spent days searching for examples and then studied them to figure out the best practices and patterns to replicate. After going through that, I realized just how powerful that workflow was but how hard it was to do it with the tools I was using. So I decided to build a dedicated tool to building a swipe file to help people make better work 10x faster by leveraging sources of inspiration and examples. I absolutely love that I get to help marketers do more creative work.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I've managed to build something that sustains myself as an entrepreneur. I'm not out here to build a billion-dollar unicorn or change the world. I just want to create something that improves people's lives and make a decent living from it.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
It takes a lot of blind ambitious, and ruthless pursuit to actually start a business. You'll experience a lot more lows than highs when you're first starting out. On paper, it won't even make sense. You'll ask yourself (and maybe even friends or family) why you're doing it and if it's worth it. But then you breakthrough, and it all comes together.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Focus on the customer and learn everything you can about them.
- Put yourself in a position to explore a business idea creatively without the financial pressure of having to make it work to support yourself.
- Plan your marketing channels ahead of time before you create the product or start the business. You want to make sure there's good alignment in the channels you'll pursue in order to grow and that you can actually take those on.
