Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Suzi Hadden, founder of Tranquil Minds Coaching, located in Williamstown, NJ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I provide health and life coaching to stressed-out people who feel stuck in some area of their life. We work together to accomplish the goals you set for yourself through education, guidance, support, accountability, and a little humor.
Tell us about yourself
I am a school psychologist by day and a certified health and life coach by night. I am also a registered yoga teacher. As someone who has struggled with stress management myself, I have a passion for showing others the tricks I've learned in order to live a happier, healthier, and less stressed life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
One of my happiest moments was when a client shared with me how much healthier she felt at the end of our coaching sessions. She had come to me fearing that she had some form of illness because she felt so lethargic and had pain in so many areas of her body. We worked together to develop healthier habits, added some supplements, and worked on stress management strategies. By the end of our time together, she reported that she had never felt better. She learned that it's ok to take small steps in a forward direction and that she didn't have to make giant changes in her lifestyle all at once. She learned to let go of perfectionism and to embrace being present in her life. I was so happy for her!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest part is putting yourself out there. I've done goofy facebook ads and shared my personal story with people. It can be intimidating but also exhilarating to face my fears.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Don't overthink it. You need to have a plan, but it doesn't have to be a perfect plan. Just do it! Dive in and get started. You can always adjust as you go. You will have moments where you feel like a failure, but that is ok. It's part of the process. As Brene Brown says, "Grace means that all of your mistakes now serve a purpose instead of serving shame." And finally, always take time for self-care. Schedule time for the things that you love and that make you happy.
