What's your business, and who are your customers?
Sutton Real Estate Advisors is a privately held commercial real estate advisory and brokerage firm that creates operational value from commercial properties with a focus on industrial, retail, and office investments.
Tell us about yourself
For the past two decades, I have been dedicated to enriching my clients' lives through the management of commercial real estate investments. I am proud of the immense value I have generated for them over these years. Despite achieving success, I have consistently felt limited and confined in my roles. I was confident in my ability to think innovatively, be creative, and possess the drive needed to create something extraordinary to do something new and make an impact in the commercial real estate world. So, I decided to take a chance and start my own business. It was an exciting and daunting step, but one that I knew could bring me the freedom to pursue my passions and continue to grow as a professional. I knew that I wanted to create something unique and meaningful, something that could benefit others too.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner had the confidence and support system to make the leap. The feeling of giving myself the opportunity to live life on my own terms and make my own decisions is invaluable. I am now able to work more creatively with clients and create an environment that encourages new ideas and collaboration. I am surrounded by professionals who share the same values as me and who are driven to make a real difference in their families, their communities, and their clients' lives.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
As a business owner, the toughest part is having to reject possible opportunities. My objective is always to assist people in achieving their objectives. I am an expert in commercial real estate; however, sometimes, an opportunity comes up that would not be best suited for my skillset or the best use of my time and effort. Despite this, I maintain a commitment to guiding folks toward solutions that can help them succeed in reaching their goals.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Surround yourself with people who genuinely care about your wellbeing and will support you in achieving success.
- Be bold but also be pragmatic.
- Step out of your comfort zone but stay grounded in reality.
- Stay agile and be ready to make adjustments if needed.
