Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sue B. Zimmerman, Founder of Susan B. Zimmerman Enterprise, located in Boston, MA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We coach, teach, and motivate mid-life women who are educators, coaches, and experts in their niche to build a sustainable, successful online business using Instagram as their primary marketing tool. Every piece of content we share is to educate, empower, motivate and inspire others to see that they can make their mark in the world doing what they love.
Tell us about yourself
As a lifelong entrepreneur, I am motivated by the daily impact I make and the thriving community we have created and poured into the last decade.
I had a seasonal boutique on Cape Cod selling clothing, jewelry, and accessories and also schlepped my products to direct-to-consumer events in New England. I always embraced the power of social media and connecting to strangers, but all light bulbs went off when I discovered the power of Instagram and how easy it was to make sales using it as a smart marketing tool.
I loved it so much that I went to a conference to learn about online marketing and realized that it was the business model I wanted.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The knowledge, respect, and connections I have gained from all the work and time I’ve put into building a reputation as a leading Instagram educator.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Stepping 100 percent into my true authentic self and proudly sharing every aspect of who I am. Potty mouth and all.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Listen and learn from others who are further along to thought leaders, coaches and experts you respect.
- Consistently show up doing what you love and sharing valuable information that helps you stay on top of mind.
- Unfriend and unfollow anyone who is not cheering you on and supporting your dreams.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Being successful takes a shit ton of time, focus, and work. You can’t do it alone. Surround yourself with people -coaches, team members, and partners, who lift you up, play to your strengths, and have skills you lack.
There’s no destination when you are a true entrepreneur; it’s about the journey.
