Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Elliott Graham, co-founder of Superbolt Tea, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Superbolt is a performance tea blend specifically formulated to provide a consistent wave of energy without the crash or drag that coffee and energy drinks will give you. Our customers are anyone that's trying to reduce their caffeine intake sugar consumption and is looking for a better alternative to keep them mentally and physically sharp. The everyday 9-5 workers, fitness enthusiasts, and athletes have found major success in our product.
We're a small, young team of creators from different backgrounds. Based out of Vancouver, we do all of our design and content creation in-house, and every order is hand-packed out of our office.
Tell us about yourself
Superbolt is the result of my passion towards athletics from an early age. Now, as an adult and a creative entrepreneur, I just wanted to create a beverage that was aligned with my active and on-the-go lifestyle. We are constantly motivated and inspired by the people around us that continuously support the brand. In Vancouver, the support has been so validating from the community out here. The feedback we receive on social media, in-person tea tasting events, and online reviews keep us going every day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being able to hire like-minded friends, start a company, and create & grow together.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Coming to the realization that you have to be a master of none at the beginning as you're learning new things every day and being okay with the learning process in the growth stage. Also, put your ego aside as there are times when you feel lost.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Team is everything, no matter how capable you think you are. You need to be okay with trusting other people to fulfill your vision for the company.
- Trust the process; good things take time. There isn't a single day that I have doubts about my brand becoming successful.
- Being community-oriented - you don't know how much support you'll get from people until you start putting yourself out there.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
At Superbolt, we saw a gap in the market and a lack of innovation in the tea industry to create a high-performing beverage that's good for you. With creating an innovative product, be prepared for nobody to understand what you're trying to develop, but there will be a time when all the efforts of building awareness will pay off.
Lastly, we have a new vlog series called Tea Business that gives you a no-filter view of what it's like running a small business. This could be super helpful for anyone looking for more insight into what it's really like in the day-to-day. Search us up on YouTube!
