Offering Growth Marketing Gameplans - Super Easy Digital

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lex Roman, Owner of Super Easy Digital, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help solo business owners find sustainable ways to book clients. I work with early to mid-stage solopreneurs who are frustrated with Google and Instagram. They don't want to play internet games. They just want to have solid leads coming in so they can do the work they love. Together, we identify a diverse set of high-converting channels so they can grow their business without wasting money and time on activities that will never yield value.

Tell us about yourself

My background is in conversion design for tech companies. For the last ten years, I have worked with Silicon Valley startups to redesign their funnels, understand their customers and grow their revenue. I began to teach and speak on this practice (known as "growth design"), and in 2019, I started my first company around this idea. I coached teams on how to grow their companies by designing their products and experiences.

While I found success in this work, my heart wasn't in it. I really hated helping Silicon Valley destroy independent businesses and people. I wanted to switch sides and focus on empowering people with access to information and tools about online business growth so they could rise above the algorithms.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One thing I'm really good at is getting people to push the buy button. My biggest accomplishment is using these skills to drive donations for causes I care about. We raised $300k in one day from a conversion-optimized landing page for one organization. It's rewarding to find ways to use this skill set to fund important work in my community.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Everything is on you! It's up to you to build a team around you. In the early days of my business, I thought I had to be great at everything and know all the answers. Now, I lean more on advisors, coaches, and peers. It can be tough to decide what to hand over to someone else and what you bring unique value to, but I'm getting better at it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Build your support network of people who believe in what you're doing (knowing fellow entrepreneurs are key!).
  2. Make small bets and test them before overinvesting in any one direction
  3. Look into ways to inject capital. There's money out there if you need it to hire professionals or pay for tools to grow your business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I was super wrong about my target audience at the beginning of my business. It's good to remember we're all wrong about something, and it's the speed of learning about our errors that sets us apart.
