What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a gift shop owner that helps people find a gift that will comfort and delight the recipient. When they describe the person or their relationship with that person, I can pretty much zero in on the best item or put something together as a package for them. It is a heart connection.
Tell us about yourself
I got started in the soapmaking business because everything I was buying bothered my skin. Once I started making my own soap and bath items, I became more aware of the ingredients in products and was able to make better choices and also help out my customers with simple, effective ingredients.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was to keep moving forward when I truly wanted to quit! There are so many challenges and roadblocks in life, and then you add the ups and downs of retail. It really takes a lot of tenacity.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things is that being a business owner means balancing family, business, and finances. Like a three-legged stool, you will be running around holding up the leg on each of these sometimes daily!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Surround yourself with like-minded people or other business owners. Join a coaching group or business community.
- Develop systems to create a structure and keep you motivated and on track.
- Stay curious! Curiosity can make a world of difference to your future and your creative self.
