What's your business, and who are your customers?
I have successfully established a business in the hospitality industry. I am the owner and chef for 3 of our restaurants based out of Toronto, and I enjoy catering to passionate food lovers from all walks of life.
Tell us about yourself
With a few cooking tricks up my sleeve and a pocket full of dreams, I moved to Canada with the vision of sharing my passion for food that could transform traditional dishes into a culinary experience. When I first started out, it was the drive to meet new people and introduce them to the bold and diverse flavours of Indian cuisine that will leave you craving for more.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
One of my biggest accomplishments has been the joyous experience we are able to create through our food for our guests. We were filled with gratitude when Michelin's recommendation came knocking at Aanch - Modernistic Indian Cuisine in 2022. My goal from the very beginning has been to shape how Indian cuisine is viewed by many, and as a brand, being celebrated for the same in Toronto is a reflection that we are on the right path. It humbles me to be the face and inspiration behind what we do here and further leave a mark in the hearts of friends, family, and valued guests.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I think one of the biggest challenges is to retain and constantly grow the business, especially keeping in mind the changing market trends. As the business grows, it gets harder and all the more essential to keep a close eye on all the aspects of work to ensure collective success. For me, my teams at all of our locations are my family, and I want to be able to help them channel their potential and succeed. The responsibility of growing together is a great determinant in achieving wholesome success.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My first advice would be to build organic connections to grow with, learn from others' successes, and implement their disciplined approach.
Secondly, you must always be willing to refresh and renew your knowledge and concepts while taking honest feedback and working to adapt to changes.
Lastly, be passionate and determined in your field to achieve your goals. No matter the obstacles or failures you encounter on the way, you must be willing to learn from those challenges.
