Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dazja Taylor, Founder of Style & Face Studios, located in Kansas City, MO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Style & Face Studios. It’s a luxury lash and brow studio. Our services include eyelash extensions, lash lifts and tints, waxing, brow tint, micro-shading/ combo permanent makeup brows & eyelash extension training.
I would say my client is a woman who knows what she wants and doesn’t accept anything less than the best. She’s someone who doesn’t settle for less.
Tell us about yourself
To be honest, I feel like lash extensions chose me. When I started lashing, I was a hairstylist who had just gotten back home from basic training for the Air Force & hair was no longer fun to me anymore. I started out doing cluster lashes and fell in love when my clients would light up after seeing themselves in the mirror with lashes on. You could see their confidence level rising, and I was obsessed with being able to help others feel good about themselves. At the same time, I knew I couldn’t build a career off a $30 lash service, so I decided to explore the industry more and stuck with it. I’ve always been the kind of person that wanted to be amazing at something if I was doing to do it, so I took the journey of becoming one of Kansas City’s best lash artists. What motivates me is the opportunity to show teenage moms (like I was) and those close to me that you can have big dreams and accomplish them if you just trust God, are willing to do the work & never settle.
Nothing is too big for God & settling is never an option.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is opening my own salon and having the opportunity to hire and train other lash artists. Being able to help other people feed their families & do what they love is a blessing.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is balancing the things I have to do. Growing a business requires attention, especially when you have goals as big as mine. However, I have a husband and teenager that I want to be there for as well. I hardly take off, so I sometimes miss out on things, but I’ve been working on ensuring my friends and family know they are important too.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be a master of one thing first. Master & be known for something, then add in others as you grow. A Jack of all trades isn’t usually an expert at anything. Be the expert.
- Be ok with making mistakes. Keep in mind that you can make changes at any time. Most things in life aren’t permanent & change is ok.
- Master your mind. Your mindset will take you places nothing else can. Prioritize having a healthy mindset and living in abundance.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I will be releasing some products and new trainings this year. So be on the lookout for those. If you or anyone know is looking to get into this industry, I’d be happy to help.
