Creative Space • Movement Place - Studio 721

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in dance and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julia Sykes, Owner of Studio 721, located in Bourne, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Studio 721 offers drop-in adult dance classes as well as dance-related group fitness. Our customers range from younger dancers who want to keep up their technique to seniors who want to move in creative ways to feel good.

Tell us about yourself

I was a professional dancer living on Cape Cod and dreamed of a place to take dance classes that was closer than Boston. I wanted to be able to offer high-quality classes that you didn't have to travel for. Finding people who love to dance and return week after week motivates me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having people say that the studio is such a warm, welcoming, inclusive space, and they feel comfortable dancing and being vulnerable.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Figuring out ways to make more money but not feel like you're overcharging people.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get over your fears and just do it.
  2. Go with your gut, but also be open to other insights, as they could work too.
  3. Love what you do, and you'll want to keep working at it!
