Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jamie Blair, founder, and owner of Strategic Moves Financial Solutions, located in Lees Summit, MO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am in the business of providing financial solutions to the problems that my community struggles with Credit, Taxes, and Life Insurance. All three hold power on their own but together can set an individual up to be a superpower in their own right! Let's face it, not enough people know about these important factors that can improve their quality of life, and so I am the liaison between the two! I want to provide the education, as well as the opportunity needed for all communities to have a fighting chance to succeed!
Tell us about yourself
My name is Jamie Blair. I originally started Strategic Moves Financial Solutions as a credit repair-focused business because of my personal experience with improving my credit score. At a young age, I destroyed my credit because of my lack of knowledge of and with credit. For over a decade, I was a resource to close friends and family for what to do to improve their credit. Then one day, it just dawned on me that I SHOULD BE DOING THIS FOR A LIVING. I've recently added tax preparation and term life insurance as services offered because as I've grown as a business owner and as a member of society, I learned that knowledge and proper utilization of these two services could play a major part in one's quality of life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Honestly, my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is not giving up! There are so many obstacles and moments of uncertainty that it can be easier to go back to solely working as a business analyst than to continue my pursuit as a full-time business owner. However, every time a client tells me that they have finally been approved to buy a home because of my service, I am recharged to keep going!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest things that come with being a business owner are:
- Being disappointed in the lack of support from those closest to you.
- Building a brand that stands out.
- Leaving a 9-5 for a 24-8.
- Sacrificing fun now for stability in your business later.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get it done, then perfect it later.
- Never stop learning.
- Find other business friends. It helps with accountability.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I know that a lot of not so morally grounded individuals have jumped into this industry to scam and make a quick buck off of the unsuspecting consumer. I plan to change that. It is not my intent to prey on the weak but to instead bring confidence to them through education and transparency. I am extremely passionate about improving the minds of my community. If I have to do it one client at a time, then that's exactly what I'll do!
