Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in gymnastics, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bill Kane founder at Planet Gymnastics Academy, based out of Massachusetts, USA.
Tell us all about your business...
Planet Gymnastics Academy is a gymnastics school for all ages, abilities, and skill levels. We provide a positive and encouraging atmosphere where everyone will feel welcome and supported.
What's your background and motivation to grow as a solopreneur?
My name is Bill Kane and I opened Planet Gymnastics in 1999. I wanted to create an environment where everyone would feel like they were part of the family. We have enjoyed great success in both creating this atmosphere but we have also enjoyed great competitive success with our growing team program. Knowing that we are adding so many positive things to our students lives motivates us to keep growing and improving.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our biggest accomplishment has been our ability to provide the kind of positive program we always dreamed of without sacrificing the quality that we believe is essential.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a solopreneur?
A challenge for every business owner is juggling all of the different responsibilities that come with the title. We are proud that we have been able to attract so many quality coaches and instructors that share our philosophy. Having such a strong cast has made the challenges easier and the rewards more satisfying.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?
1. See your vision
2. Follow your dreams and your heart
3. Always strive to inspire and never stop believing in yourself
If there was one thing you could do repeatedly to help grow your business, what would it be?
We strive to make every class and every practice a positive experience. When we do this, we feel it is the best way to grow.
What are some of the things you put in place to maintain a healthy work/life balance and to keep it all together?
If you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work. There are always busy times that can be challenging but finding a work/life balance is not hard if you love what you do. That being said…remember to make recharging time for yourself by scheduling time off whenever possible.
Who are some of your favorite entrepreneurs and best business resources/books?
Obviously social media is a huge resource for communication and getting your message or program out there. My favorite entrepreneurs are people in my life that I know personally that have created something they are proud of. Success is measured individually and not by your bottom line. Other like minded gym owners, gutsy people that take chances, and a big shout out to my wife who has inspired me with her own accomplishments.
