What's your business, and who are your customers?
Starburst Parlor Keto Bakery is a one-of-a-kind, totally sugar free and gluten free haven set in a late 1950s aesthetic. Our guests are anyone at any age living a low-carb, gluten free or sugar free lifestyle or wanting to start.
Tell us about yourself
During the pandemic city closure, I found myself trying to stay busy and baking to fulfill my own cravings for keto sweet and savory treats. After being told that the business I ran for eleven years was sold without warning, a friend urged me to start my own keto bakery. I love serving my creations to others; it literally is the biggest joy to hear that someone is so excited to visit my shop and try our menu.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Seeing and hearing so many people from around the world rave about my food and/or coffee creations either in the shop or in reviews.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Overhead costs, city fees, and labor/employee tax costs are the biggest challenge to keep the wheels of the business turning.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
I would recommend never partnering with a stranger who wants to leach onto your unique ideas. Get a good accountant to help with back-end paperwork and things outside your creative realm, and lead with your heart and passion- don’t let mainstream or corporate standards influence your unique brand.
