Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in event services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Stacy Erker, Founder of Stacy Erker Event Strategy, located in St. Louis, MO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the owner of Stacy Erker Event Strategy. We specialize in producing high-quality nonprofit & corporate events (live & virtual) in St. Louis and throughout North America. We approach our projects from various angles, resulting in co-authored programs that maximize attendee experiences and exceed client goals.
Tell us about yourself
I launched my company in 2016 with the goal of partnering with nonprofit and corporate organizations to plan successful, creative, and budget-conscious events. My passion is creating custom experiences that result in lasting memories. I love thinking outside the box as much as possible. Creating my own event planning consulting company had been a long-time dream of mine that came to fruition when I moved to St. Louis from Chicago for my husband's job. I was at a crossroads in my career: find a new job in St. Louis, or start my own company. I took steps to start my own business and have never looked back.
I am motivated by the outcomes of events that my company produces for our clients. It is incredible to help an organization achieve its goals through live and virtual events, be it fundraising, employee engagement, or community programs.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is growing my company and my team from the ground up. I launched Stacy Erker Event Strategy in a market I had not worked in before moving here. I had no professional contacts and no clients. When I decided to start this company, I hit the ground running and met with anyone who would meet with me. Six years later, I have a full calendar of annual events, fantastic relationships with industry partners, and an incredible team! I am so proud of what I have achieved in just a few years!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
As a business owner, the hardest thing for me is stepping back. I have built my company on my worth ethic and my skill set. I am so fortunate to now have a fantastic and highly capable team working with me, and I'd love to be able to hand more project ownership to my team as we continue to grow.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't be afraid to take a risk.
- Success comes from hard work. If you put in the time and have patience, you will see results!
- Never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
