Your Very Own Jill-of-all-trades - Stacey Smith
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Stacey Smith, founder of Lilo Life, located in Westmoreland, NY, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Lilo Life consults businesses, organizations, and occasionally individuals seeking strategic execution with organization/operations, digital media, customer experience, and process design. Our customers are typically economic development non-profits, small businesses with a triple-bottom-line goal, and single moms.
Tell us about yourself
I'm your very own Jill-of-all-trades. I have a breadth of experience and 'enough to be dangerous' in a variety of disciplines with over ten years of experience in the business building world, including directing Utica's first business incubator and starting Utica's first co-working space. Everything I produce is mixed with tender, loving care, and sass. I'm a big believer in growing things together. I geek out about organizing, simplifying processes, and financial literacy. I also have an eye for design. I am motivated when people feel supported and when I see them spiral into making their visions come true!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The impact and outcomes of my clients in their businesses while also seeing them grow personally.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Learning to say no AND learning when to delegate.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Knowing "enough to be dangerous" IS enough, and where to start!
- When you begin to overthink or paralyze with perfectionism: reference the mantra "Screw it, ship it!"
- Adopt good operations practices at the START to save yourself time and panic later.
