Variety of Fun Flavors - Spritzal Cookie
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Taylor Walker, co-founder and VP of Sales & Marketing of Spritzal Cookie Company, located in Rockland, MA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Spritzal Cookie Company is a mother/daughter, woman-owned wholesale cookie company headquartered in Rockland, MA. Our 4th generation family recipe comes in a delicious variety of unique, fun flavored shortbread cookies that are baked with Just 5 & 6 clean label ingredients.
Tell us about yourself
Our business was formed in April of 2014 based on our original family recipe from my (my mom's) great grandmother, Nannie Greta. Her Swedish almond shortbread was a tradition for the holiday season and was given as gifts to friends & family. People would start asking around September each year when they would get their favorite cookies. My mom started her business at the farmer's market in the spring of 2014. She quickly grew into local and regional store chains in MA. In 2019, we rebranded to our current iteration and had grown on a national scale.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our biggest accomplishment has been our success and perseverance to grow into ourselves as a larger business being sold in national grocery chains. Especially given the struggles throughout the 2020-2022 pandemic years, many small businesses have not been as lucky, and we are so grateful to be able to grow.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a business owner means it's not getting done unless you do it yourself. You'll never find the time when you're NOT thinking about your business and what you can do to make things more efficient, struggles in certain areas, etc. You have to have the passion and dedication to get things done on your "checklist."
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
1.) Make sure this is something you have a true passion for. Your business becomes your baby. Nurturing it to grow and thrive is how you will succeed.
2.) Not everything happens overnight. There will be PLENTY of unsuccessful and stressful days. Your goal is to know that is a temporary thing, and the only way to change that is to get back up and do better the next day.
3.) Take the time to network & to help others along the way. Give back your knowledge, and others will do the same.
