Maximize Your Performance and Health - Sports RDpro

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jennifer Brunelli, Owner of Sports RDpro Nutrition Services, located in Charlotte, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Sports RDpro is a sports nutrition consulting company that supports both individual clients and teams/schools. We provide individual counseling, as well as program building for professional and amateur teams, high schools and colleges, and sports programs in order to maximize the benefits of the time athletes spend training and the financial resources available. Our services range from weight loss and gain, corporate nutrition, injury nutrition education, supplement protocol development, fueling station build-outs, creating budgets for on-site and travel fueling, and more!

Tell us about yourself

I was a seven-time All-American and University of South Carolina Hall of Fame athlete who became great through nutrition. I changed my fueling during training for the 2004 Olympics, and it changed the path of my athletic career as well as introduced me to my professional career. I am motivated each day to reach as many athletes as I possibly can. The thrill of hearing from a client that they excelled with the education we provide gives me joy. Make your passion your job.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is turning my passion for nutrition and sports performance into a successful company that supports others.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is saying no. In order to maintain your initial goals, as you grow, you find yourself needing to say no to certain things that are not in alignment with where you want to be. It is important to maintain your focus on the product or service during growth to keep your passion alive!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be clear and narrow in your focus. Solve one problem at a time. If you are too broad, then you will have a hard time finding your target market and serving their needs.
  2. Ask questions of those who have gone before you. There is no reason to recreate the wheel.
  3. Team up with other small businesses in your community. Teamwork keeps you engaged and grounded!
