What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a freelance writer and content creator for my blog, SpookyMrsGreen, where I share affiliate articles, sponsored content, and items of interest to my readers for parenting, family lifestyle, and pagan interest. They can get special offers from affiliate businesses, read my book reviews, and learn about top trends in health, wellness, and modern parenting.

Tell us about yourself

I've always loved words. My favourite childhood hobby was visiting my local library on Saturday mornings and getting lost among the bookshelves. I used to enjoy writing passages from my favourite books in notebooks and on scraps of paper until I began to create my own short stories and poems. I got started with SpookyMrsGreen around the time my first short story was accepted for publication in an anthology. The publisher advised me to start a blog, so I did; it grew from there!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing my novels in print, sitting on the bookshelves next to my favourite authors. They make me happy!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

All the background work involved in the process. We spend hours perfecting our professional brands, whether through additional studies to gain qualifications, keeping up-to-date with industry trends, or simply maintaining a professional social media platform.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research! Make sure you know what is needed for your chosen profession.
  2. Make a proper business plan. I used to shy away from these, but now I recognize how useful they can be.
  3. Never give up. Even when times are tough, and you feel like you are not succeeding, there is always a little something that will get you through. Be proud of your achievements, however small they might seem.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

The business world is accessible to everyone, but some people are fortunate to find good mentors and support networks. If there is nobody close to you that can offer moral support, reach out online and find your tribe. We need to lift each other up and celebrate the small wins.
