Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Steven Sorr, Founder of Source of Health, located in Scottsdale, AZ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Source of Health is a modern wellness and aesthetic clinic designed with the patient-centered practice of healthcare. We believe that health begins with the person, and promoting lifestyle and long-term trajectory goals are the best for total body wellness.
We love helping people feel better inside and out with our 4 Pillars of Health:
- Live better - Functional Medicine
- Look better - Aesthetic Medicine
- Heal better - Regenerative Medicine
- Move better - Physical Medicine
Our community is based on individuals with the health warrior mentality - seeking to treat the root cause over masking with symptom suppression. We use technology so we can spend more time with patients, focus on up-to-date evidence for all conditions we treat, and pull from both Eastern and Western philosophies of health to create a total wellness model.
Tell us about yourself
Being a physician and a business owner means I take care of my patients and staff first, then myself last. As a constant theme that has flowed through my life, both personally and professionally, the blend of art and science is powerful. I knew that the healthcare system was broken and tainted, so participating in that was never my dream. Creating a new system that has been refined, balanced, and sophisticated with the bespoke design quality was the fuel source for our culture here at Source of Health.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As a business owner, I have felt massive amounts of gratefulness and, of course, the roller coaster of imposter syndrome just like everyone else. Business is about building and maintaining relationships - so this has always been my greatest achievement.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about business is having the feeling of never enough, comparison to others, and work-life balance. I truly love doing what I do, so if that doesn't happen, it makes me feel less than - which is totally normal and a sign that more growth and personal development are around the corner. The entrepreneur's dilemma is balancing the insatiable craving for creativity with managing stability.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
If you're looking to start a business, think very hard about what you truly are good at, love to do, and fulfill your purpose in your life. It is never easy to do tasks and chores that don't bring you joy, but until you can afford to leverage/hire that out, you have to roll up your CEO sleeves and also be the janitor.
