Business Podcasts Are Our Thing - SoundAdvice Strategies
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Phyllis Nichols, Founder of SoundAdvice Strategies, located in Columbus, OH, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
SoundAdvice Strategies is a full-service podcast production company for business leaders. We help our clients expand their reach, impact, and revenue. In a noisy world, it's never been more important to make real, lasting connections, and we show our clients exactly how to do that in a way that fits their style, their story, and their business goals.
Tell us about yourself
For me, every day provides the opportunity to make new connections and help others do the same. I started my career in corporate sales and quickly realized that people want to be heard and understood, so that's where we start. It may seem odd for a podcast company to focus on listening, but that's exactly what we do so we can provide the insight and perspective to help our clients share their stories in the best way possible.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is being able to work with my husband as my full-time business partner. It felt like a big risk and the right move at the same time. He's the operations-minded, data-driven voice to my big vision dreams. It's been a great combination.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
There are challenges to owning your own business, that's for sure. I think the hardest part for me is the tendency to get really focused on the day-to-day and lose the big-picture perspective. We've got some built-in systems that help me zoom out on a regular basis now, but it took me a while to figure that part out.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
First, trust yourself. You are the expert, and no one needs to announce you as the leader. Step into that role from day one. Second, delegate as soon as possible - probably sooner than you think you should. Owning a business doesn't mean you have to do it all yourself. The sooner you empower others, the faster you'll grow and the easier it will be to keep yourself on track. Third, get a business bestie or join a peer group so you can get perspective and support. I've been lucky to have variations of this from the beginning, and it's been so helpful to get advice or have someone else to talk to when I need to make decisions about the next steps.
