Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nick Padlo, CEO of Sophros Recovery, located in Jacksonville, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Sophros Recovery is a startup in the mental health industry providing addiction and mental health treatment in a unique way that combines various evidence-based treatments, along with mindfulness, in order to help clients regain their lives.

We provide in-person programs combining group therapy, individual therapy, medical support, and case management in order to develop the tools and set the conditions for success in recovery. We believe that recovery is more than just abstinence from drugs and alcohol, but living a happier, healthier life where we can truly enjoy the present moment.

Tell us about yourself

I started Sophros based on my own experience in recovery. While I was running a successful business in the pet industry, I was struggling personally with both mental health and substance use disorder. After receiving treatment myself, I wanted a chance to help others who were struggling with some of the same issues. When I looked at the entire spectrum of services available to support people with mental health, this part of the care continuum was underserved, and we owed people more. We owed them a service where they were placed first, treated with the most effective modalities, and provided with unconditional support through the biggest battle of their lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is seeing clients get well. It comes in the form of a thank you, the look on a client's face when they are turning a corner and starting to regain their life. They are what this is all about, and they make everything worth it.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The biggest challenge that I have is ensuring that we have the best team to deliver the service to our clients. Finding the right people takes work, and as we grow, we expand our team. Each time we do so, it is vital that the team members are aligned with the mission, vision, and values of Sophros Recovery.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Invest in people.
  2. Put clients first.
  3. Lead the company with a clear vision.
