Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jasmine Khorsandi, owner of SonoBreasts, located in Santa Monica, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Sonobreasts; we use the latest technology in breast health to save lives. All women should have this type of ultrasound done because it can detect cancer as small as 3 millimeters. The typical mammogram misses 50% of breast cancer if you have dense breast tissue or implants. This technology is groundbreaking because it can pick up cancer when it is small. Early detection can prevent the need for chemotherapy and radiation.

Tell us about yourself

I started my career as an ultrasound technician scanning thyroids, pelvis, carotids, abdomen, and breasts. I felt compelled to focus on breast ultrasounds because I had experienced personally the pain and grief breast cancer can cause. My grandmother battled breast cancer, and my best friend lost her mother to breast cancer because it was missed on the mammogram. It motivates me to know that I am sharing my gift of helping others; I have helped save countless lives and prevent aggressive treatment from early detection.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is following my passion and the success that has come from that decision. I come from a family that values health and wellness so venturing out to become a professional in this field felt like my calling. However, it did not come without challenges and setbacks. The reason I am able to help and heal people is that I took a leap of faith in the direction I felt was most important in my life. I am most proud of my research, system management, and faith in my own business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is feeling alone. When you start a business all on your own you want everything pertaining to the company to be done well. You expect the same passion and high qualifications you have for business and yourself to be matched by those helping you. I have had to learn to trust others and build strong relationships to complete tasks and provide exceptional service. Being a business owner requires confidence and the ability to trust.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus on one thing that you feel is your passion or true purpose in this life. If you do not know what your purpose is, do some soul-searching. Once you put all of your energy into this one mission, it becomes a part of your day-to-day routine. Use social media to promote your business and who you are to the world.
  2. Take care of number one; that would be you. Being in a good mindset and having a healthy lifestyle is 80% of success. When you commit to your business, you are also committing to taking care of yourself, promoting yourself, and expanding yourself.
  3. Do not fall back on old routines, negative mind chatter, or allow other people to influence you to give up. You have to separate the new successful business version of you from the old patterns and routines you used to have. Never give up on your dreams.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you are not happy in your life, challenge yourself to get out of your comfort zone and take a leap of faith. Whatever you put your mind to, you can accomplish; it is okay if you are not 100% sure what your purpose is. As long as you start focusing your energy on your passions, your calling will reveal itself. Dream big and believe in yourself. The universe has plenty of abundance for you!
