Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Troy Skaife, owner of Soma Therapeutic Massage, located in St. Louis, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

SOMA Therapeutic Massage is a wellness center located at 2260 S Compton Ave, Saint Louis, MO 63104. SOMA is nestled between the historic neighborhoods of Compton Heights and Tower Grove East. We provide a spa-like environment and offer so much more than a relaxing session. Our therapists provide a safe and healing environment. Our clients come from all walks of life with varying health requirements. We partner with several Chiropractors, Physicians, Counselors, Physical Therapists, and Personal Trainers to help clients achieve optimal wellness and vitality.

SOMA offers massage therapists that are trained in Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Sports Massage, Reiki energy work, and the SEATTL Method (Soothing Emotions After Trauma Transition or Loss), especially good for PTSD. Our greatest partnership is with you, the client: we listen and tailor your session to your individual needs so that you can get the most out of each visit to SOMA.

Tell us about yourself

I am a  professionally licensed massage therapist, a graduate of The Healing Arts Center from their Massage Therapy program, and also a graduate from Logan College of Chiropractic with a Doctorate in Chiropractic.

My massage sessions are an intuitive blend of Swedish massage, myofascial release, pressure point, and deep tissue work. Massage therapy is so much more than a luxury spa treatment. In my experience, a competent and knowledgeable massage therapist is as important as a chiropractor or physical therapist and plays an integral role in your total well-being. Massage therapy can be essential to preventing injuries from sports and exercise-related activities, help chronic pain from postural issues, and lastly, the more popular approach of reducing stress.

People ask me all the time if I like what I do. Yes, Absolutely! Massage therapy has been an extremely rewarding experience as I have been extremely blessed to meet so many different people and to have had such a positive impact on so many people’s lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think the biggest accomplishment that our business has accomplished is surviving the last two years with the COVID shutdown and actually having growth.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think one of the hardest things about being a business owner is actually taking time off for yourself and your family. It’s easy to work seven days a week when you love what you do.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The best advice or tip for starting a business is to do something you are passionate about and that you enjoy. That passion will separate you from your competition, and your clients will see the difference in the service that they receive.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Thank you for this opportunity to invite your readers to check us out and let us customize a session that will be specific to their needs.
