Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dani Frank, Founder of Sole Journey Yoga, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I founded Sole Journey Yoga in 2016. I am a yoga teacher and mental health mentor. I help individuals and business harness the power of their personal or collective mental health through customized yoga protocols.

I offer intimate group classes, educational workshops, courses, and transformative 1:1 coaching. My customers are men and women looking to cultivate their mental health toolkits beyond therapy.

Tell us about yourself

I became a yoga teacher after leaving my corporate Human Resources career as a shell of a human being. I was experiencing burnout and turned to my yoga practice to help me heal. Dedicating myself to a consistent yoga practice changed my physical and mental health.

During my transformation, I realized I wanted to help others discover the healing power of yoga. I started Sole Journey Yoga about a week after completing my first yoga teacher training. I have continued my yoga education by focusing on the intersection of modern psychology and ancient yoga philosophy.

There are no words to describe the feeling of teaching someone struggling with a mental health symptom how to self-soothe. Every day I am motivated by the privilege to witness and be a part of this journey.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think it's a huge accomplishment as a business owner to have not just survived the last two years but also grown. I'm privileged in the sense that when the pandemic shut everything shut down, my corporate clients turned to virtual yoga classes.

I was able to continue to teach when many yoga teachers were scrambling for work or to create their space online. My client list is my biggest accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is learning to balance work and rest. As a solopreneur, my daily to-do list can seem daunting, but I know that if I don't allow time away from work, everything in my life will suffer. Learning to balance doing, being, and resting has been the most challenging part of my journey.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Learn everything you can about the current state of your nervous system and cultivate techniques to self-regulate. The health of your nervous system will impact how you run and grow your business.
  2. Never forget that you can figure anything out. We live in a time of almost unlimited educational resources. There are numerous open-source learning opportunities for every aspect of a business.
  3. The success of your business is 80% mindset and 20% of what you create with it. A growth-focused perspective will impact your response to every scenario in your industry. If you cannot visualize your success in your mind, you will have a more challenging time creating it in real life.
