Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brendan Brosnan, Founder of Socky Sock, located in Plantation, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

One of the businesses that I created is Socky Sock. Our customers are fun-loving people who want to spruce up their wardrobes!

Tell us about yourself

I started my first e-commerce business in 2017 after I got injured playing college football at Penn State. Since then, I have created and sold several other businesses. I love making unique products and obsessing over creating an unforgettable customer experience. I am also a big marketing nerd, so I am always consuming content and learning from others. It is rewarding to apply what I am learning to improve my businesses.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment would have to be starting my entrepreneurial journey with very little money and figuring out a way to boot-strap my way to 8 figures+ in revenue. I started with $10k that I had from working a job in college and recently exited for 7+ figures.

I would say the lessons I learned from running multiple businesses were the greatest value I received. It feels as though I have gotten multiple real-world MBA's. I also developed an amazing network of high-level entrepreneurs. I am very grateful to be in the position that I am in today.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is having the self-discipline to continue pushing the ball forward on your business, even when you don't always feel like putting in the work. No one is there to tell you what to do or force you to do something. This also happens to be the best part of being a business owner!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Network like crazy. Fill your circle with people who are doing what you want to be doing. You can do so by providing value to others without asking for anything in return.
  2. Get started on something. It's easy to research, but the real lessons begin when you put your money where your mouth is and get started. You never lose. You either win, or you learn.
  3. Learn to self-regulate. In entrepreneurship, the highs are high, and the lows are low. It is important not to let yourself get too caught up in either. Feel the win or the loss - and then move on.
