Interactive Activities For Children - Socially Skilled Kids
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cindy Basso, Curriculum Writer of Socially Skilled Kids, located in Belmont, MA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I create a specialized curriculum for students from kindergarten through fifth grade and beyond who have special needs requiring explicit instruction in social skills and modified academics.
Tell us about yourself
After many years of creating my own curriculum to meet my special education student's needs, I realized that others need this curriculum as well. There is not a lot available to special education teachers, especially in the area of social skills and social-emotional education.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is providing teachers, therapists, and families with the materials they need to improve their students' and children's lives with explicit and easy-to-use curriculums. Hearing how much my material has helped people is the best accomplishment I could hope for.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest part of being a business owner is keeping up with the demand of a one-person company. When someone has a request, I want to respond and help immediately. This pressure can sometimes be a bit stressful. I take every product very seriously and always want to give excellent customer service.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't let fear hold you back. Just get started knowing it won't be perfect.
- Learn from others who are farther along in their journey.
- Do not be afraid to invest in your skills to help you create a great business.
