Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dannekah Roberts, Co-Owner of Sneaker Bar SA, located in San Antonio, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a sneaker company that caters to those unable or unwilling to deal with the hassle of fighting software bots and other competitors. Our philosophy is that the everyday individual should be able to flex with the other sneakerheads in the community. We are a company passionate about the love of the sneaker rather than the profit. In a saturated market of resellers, we seek to separate ourselves by collaborating with community-owned brands, taking pride in building lasting relationships with our clients, and providing the everyday shoe to the regular customer.
Tell us about yourself
We met in 2017 while working for a previous employer. A mutual friendship blossomed over our desire for growth in our respective careers and our love for the hottest sneakers. While trapped inside during the beginning of the pandemic, we realized that we were still able to obtain sneakers while most consumers were missing out on drops. This was the emergence of Sneaker Bar SA, officially forming in December 2020.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The greatest accomplishment thus far would be knowing what is possible. We began this business in the middle of a pandemic when our potential customers were panicking about the impact of all the ongoings in the world. Knowing that we could establish a faithful clientele only encouraged us. With this, we were in an industry that could withstand the hardships and allow us to remain present for our clients.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Unlike the traditional career, when you are a business owner, there is not a time period when you clock out and stop working. When one task is complete, there is generally an immediate need to complete another as you are building a brand, not just starting a business. The difficulty arises when you learn to entrust others with your brand while learning it all cannot be accomplished overnight.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Do your research. Many industries are ever-changing, and you want to ensure you remain up to date as you will become an expert in your space. Believe in your dreams even when others do not.
