Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in healthcare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jeff Grant, CEO of SnapNurse, located in Scottsdale, AZ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
SnapNurse has built a revolutionary platform that simplifies the process of finding the perfect match between qualified clinicians and healthcare facilities that both have the goal of providing the highest level of patient care. We have a clinician corps in excess of 350,000 currently serving over 1,000 healthcare facilities across the country.
SnapNurse is a respected community of compassionate, high-integrity healthcare professionals who bring their talents and positive attitudes to every assignment. We are healthcare staffing for the technology age.
Tell us about yourself
Cherie Kloss founded SnapNurse in 2017. After working in the healthcare industry for more than 17 years, she noticed a pervasive and growing problem: there were unpredictable nursing shortages occurring across the world and no way to quickly find the support needed to care for patients. Cherie knew there had to be a better way, so she got to work designing the parameters for what would become a tech-enabled staffing platform to connect credentialed medical staff to medical facilities in as short as 24 to 36 hours. She brought in strategic partners to help bring SnapNurse to life. Since its launch, SnapNurse has become mission critical to the US healthcare system as stresses of COVID, walkouts and strikes, natural disasters, and the ever-increasing aging population have left massive voids in care.
Given the healthcare challenges experienced by my own family, I found an opportunity to lead the further improvement of the healthcare delivery system particularly compelling on a very personal level, and the SnapNurse entrepreneurial culture a perfect fit.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
From 2018 to 2021, SnapNurse grew nearly 150,000 percent. That's not a typo. And most of that growth occurred in just two of those years. In 2020, annual revenue jumped from $3 million to $88 million. By 2021, it had hit an astonishing $1.1 billion.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
When you are in a period of rapid growth, it takes tremendous additional focus to stay true to your culture as you scale and to build out processes that support a larger and more complex organization without slowing it down. We have been fortunate in maintaining a people-first culture at SnapNurse as well as speed and agility at scale.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Ruthless focus on top priorities - as a leader, you have to maintain a large percentage of your focus on what will have the largest impact.
- Balanced with agility as you derive new insights and markets evolve - While focused, you must stay agile as you learn and adapt to market circumstances.
- Constituents matter - track and stay accountable for continuous improvement of the experience with all key constituents: your employees, customers, and partners.
