What's your business, and who are your customers?
Small Flower {floral studio} is a Calgary-based floral studio creating custom-made, one-of-a-kind bouquets for you and to share with those you love and care about most. We are passionate about offering hope, healing & beauty to the world through the power of one small flower.
Tell us about yourself
As a child, I spent a lot of time working alongside both my grandmothers in their gardens. Seeing the difference flowers had in their lives has never left me. It created a desire within me to share the power that flowers had to transform an ordinary day into something extraordinary. Flowers had the enchantment to slow a person down to enjoy the simple pleasures of life, realizing that there is a beautiful fragility to each moment that is worth savoring. It gives me so much joy to have other experiences and tap into flowers' capacity to make life just a little bit better. Flowers provide a deep expression to what we often have trouble expressing with words.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Surviving the test of time. Having been in business for 25+ years, I have navigated through several challenges. Through each one, I was able to maintain an unwavering belief that flowers mattered and what I offered the world was worth the effort.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
When you are passionate about what you do, at times, it can be challenging to find a balanced life. I often find that the lines of what is work and pleasure can be a bit murky. Funny thing is, I think of it as a good problem to have. Flowers are often a big part of even my vacation time, but they charge me up and give me the creative juices that I need to stay fresh when I come back to work in the studio.
