Healthy Habits for an Amazing Body and Life - Juhl Khallen
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Juhl Khallen, Owner of Slim Metabolics, located in San Francisco, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I coach busy professional women to develop healthy habits that lead them to an amazing body and life. In layman's terms, I help people lose weight without excessive exercise or unrealistic eating patterns. I also help them adjust their self-image to healthy and lean, which supports their nutritional choices.
Tell us about yourself
Be Slim Training and Slim Metabolics are passion projects. I created the training because people were always so shocked when they asked how I stay in shape, and I told them that I just watch what I eat, walk around the block 2-3 times a day, and follow my passion through writing or achieving goals. I actually lost over 52 pounds doing this since 2009. I think everyone should know that it's their God-given right to be happy, healthy, fit, and slim without pain or sacrifice.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been creating the training. When I began, I was told it would take three months. It actually took over two years to fully design and develop the training, and I had to do this almost 100% on my own. Then I had to design and develop the website for it - luckily, I had a web developer for that.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Staying motivated and positive when you have nothing but a vision. Staying clear on your goal even when you have none or only a few clients. For every person who supports what you're doing, there are 100 who don't and are actually jealous or just can't wrap their (tiny) heads around your goal. They don't want you to have the freedom they think they don't have. It can be really frustrating when everyone and your brother is telling you what you're doing won't work.
I guess it all boils down to learning to rely primarily on yourself and your vision to make your decisions rather than asking everyone else what you should do. As the saying goes, if it were easy, everyone would be doing it. So just do it and don't pay too much attention to people who aren't a part of your business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't quit your day job until your new business hits a necessary profit margin. Most small businesses are expensive to start and fail not because of a lack of motivation but of a lack of funding. Make sure you have a steady stream of income from a primary job until your business is up and running and more than adequately covering your personal and business expenses.
- Stay true to your vision but remain humble, open, and willing to change. If this is a new take on an evergreen business, you've hopefully got an alternative solution. At the same time, stay agile and flexible. There are many who came before you. Don't be afraid to learn from them. Use what works and create solutions to what doesn't.
- If you find that your way doesn't work, find what works and focus on that.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Stay true to your positive dreams and visions. When you do this, you empower others to do the same. This is how we affect massive positive change in the world.
