What's your business, and who are your customers?
SKINWORKS Day Spa brings an affordable luxury experience to the Atlanta area. We are nurse-owned and are happy to service the entire family with a barber on-site, upscale atmosphere, 5-star service, and an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. We specialize in corrective skin care, including mole and skin care treatment, chemical peels, dermaplane and microneedling, hair removal, and teeth whitening.
Tell us about yourself
I was a nurse in management for a large medical group in the Atlanta area, and my vacation time wasn't approved! This forced me to consider the possibility of having full authority over my life. I discovered esthetics and saw "beauty nurse" written all over it. I want to show my daughter that she CAN be the captain of her life's ship. It takes preparation, and you must love what you do, but it's totally possible and most definitely worth it.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Growing my team and surviving a pandemic! I celebrated my first anniversary during quarantine! It was depressing and scary, but I realized that I was ok. It motivated me to go harder, and SKINWORKS grew during this time!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The emotional roller-coaster that comes along with having days that range from zero -to-prosperous.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find a way to be a solution, not just a service or product provider.
- Grow your team from the beginning!
- Pivot early and fast if you find a practice or product to be unsuccessful.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Build or become a part of a community. It can be lonely in these entrepreneur streets, so it's vital to have others that understand and speak the same language.
