Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tin Tran, co-owner of Skill Prepare, located in Suwanee, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Skill Prepare is a learning company specializing in the development of digital employee universities for companies to train their employees effectively on company-specific procedures, safety, and protocol. Skill Prepare also specializes in a variety of additional learning services such as training video production, creating customer training platforms, and building VR learning experiences. We are here to help companies of all sizes and backgrounds grow their business from within by providing effective learning solutions for employees to grow their skillsets while saving time and money on training.

Tell us about yourself

I absolutely love this business each and every day because I enjoy helping businesses with their training processes and developing solutions. I feel great when our clients tell us how our training solutions helped their company. We have a great team at Skill Prepare, and I am incredibly blessed to be in this position.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is seeing the impact Skill Prepare is making on companies and how it is helping train employees better. As a Vietnamese immigrant, I come from humble beginnings, so to be working with some of the largest companies in the world along with numerous small businesses has been a top accomplishment throughout my business journey.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is scaling and learning to delegate to your team effectively. Scaling a business is an art and requires a talented team which can be difficult to acquire. Key players need to be set in place for your company to grow as a unit because, as a business owner, time is everything and generally one of your biggest obstacles.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Patience is key. Long-lasting, fruitful ventures simply don't happen overnight.
  2. It takes inches to make a foot. It takes feet to make a mile. Meaning, make small progress each day; it will add up and help you build momentum.
  3. Don't always take a job for a fast dollar; greed will kill your business. Instead, leverage the time you have starting out to build worthwhile connections rather than a quick buck.
