Eat Good, Look Good, Live Great - SixPackChef

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food service but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Wallace Wong, founder of SixPackChef, located in Mississauga, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a content creator and entrepreneur. My brand is Six Pack Chef
it is the branded version of myself. The slogan is Eat Good - Look Good- Live Great, representing the three facets of my life and what SPC is built on: All things food and drink, health and fitness, and lifestyle (entrepreneurship, life, and motivation).

My customers are from all three buckets and find value and entertainment in the content and services I provide, whether a video, a cooking class, a private event, or posts regarding my life. I also recently launched a frozen food company called SPATULA Foods, where we create flash-frozen gourmet meals that are ready in under 10 minutes!

Tell us about yourself

Professional chef, fitness athlete, tv personality, and entrepreneur. I am not your typical chef.

•FOOD
I've worked at some of the most respected restaurants in the world, including Langdon Hall in Canada, NOMA in Denmark, Alinea in Chicago, and opening Momofuku Shoto under David Chang. You may recognize me from tasty and exciting television shows like Fridge Wars (Winner), Top Chef Canada (Finalist), Chopped Canada (Winner), and Bake it Possible (Top 10 Finalist).

•HEALTH & FITNESS
Diagnosed clinically obese turned International Fitness Competitor, I represented Canada on some of the most prestigious bodybuilding stages in the world, including Arnold Amateur and North Americans, all while working as a professional chef! As a result, I have become a highly inspirational and motivational fitness personality.

With my knowledge in cooking and experience in fitness, I have crafted a specific niche for myself and hence the name Six Pack Chef. Combining health and fitness with food, I show that you can have your cake, eat it too and get abs!

•LIFE
With all that, the kitchen and the gym aren't the only things I compete at. In my early teens, I also had to compete...for this life, battling cancer and ultimately beating it. As a cancer survivor, I am extremely passionate about being alive and the opportunity to live life to the fullest. Whether in the kitchen, in the gym, building brands and businesses, and living life, I have built my brand, Six Pack Chef, to be structured around the three pillars of food, health & fitness, and lifestyle.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is not quitting. I have spent over a decade figuring out my niche and "tasting" things to determine what aspects of things I like or work well and what hasn't to create and bring the best from Six Pack Chef. I love that I can say that I am able to make a living doing things that are part of my everyday life and showcase it to the world.

SPATULA is another extension of the Eat Good and Live Good parts of SixPackChef.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is that you work 24/7. There is no one to blame, and you are in charge and responsible for whether you can pay your bills or not. Something else is that if you have employees as I do at SPATULA Foods, you are now responsible for the well-being and livelihood of others!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find something you truly love to do. This way, when it gets hard and you want to quit, you won't because, at the end of the day, you love it. You also will be more willing to put in those extra hours and go above and beyond.
  2. Surround yourself with people you look up to and who are way more successful than you. They will motivate, push you and also help you with all the issues you will face because they most likely have faced them
  3. Don't compare your day 1 with someone else's day XYZ.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Be patient. Be kind to yourself. Be happy. Be true to yourself. You do these things, and everything will fall in place and come with it.
