Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Don Mcgrath, Co-Founder of Six Minute Webinar, located in Colorado Springs, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm the co-creator of Six Minute Webinar technology, and we serve entrepreneurs and small business owners to create powerful marketing messages that speak directly to their perfect clients and move them to action.
Tell us about yourself
A few years ago, I was doing a lot of training for entrepreneurs to help them improve their speaking, so they could use speaking as a marketing tool. I have a very successful book in the rock climbing space, Vertical Mind, and have had a lot of success using speaking to build a business around it. What I discovered is that most of them struggled with having a clear and concise message.
The result is that they would confuse prospects, and a confused mind doesn't take action. I took what I knew about creating short and powerful talks and created software called ScriptPal that creates such a message quickly and easily. I just love when people tell me that they have been trying for years to create such a clear message and how it is making a huge positive impact on their business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I feel my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the creation of ScriptPal. It's been a game-changer for so many people and their businesses.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I have found that the biggest challenge of being a business owner is staying focused. Many of us are creative people and always thinking up new cool products and programs to help others. The problem is that these can be a distraction to getting momentum in any one thing. I've learned to focus on one thing at a time and make it successful, which can take significant time and energy. Then move on to the next thing.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Here are my top 3 tips:
- Get absolutely crystal clear on what problem you solve for whom.
- Use the answer to #1 to be hyper-focused on communicating this clearly.
- Take what works in your marketing and do more of it.
