What's your business, and who are your customers?

We provide food safety training and consulting services to food businesses. By using our food safety plan development and audit certification services, food importers and manufacturers in Canada and the United States stay compliant with regulations and meet customer requirements. In turn, consumers enjoy safe food.

Tell us about yourself

I am originally from France, where I studied Food Science. After emigrating to Canada, I worked in the industry for 15 years. I decided to further my education and obtained a master's degree in Food Science. I started blogging first, then developed the business to include the online sale of regulatory document packages and training courses. I have a keen interest in food and technology. I enjoy teaching and mentoring. That's what has kept me motivated in the last eight years.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I created a successful business that provided opportunities to a small team of talented freelancers. The business has given me the freedom to organize my time and achieve work/life balance.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Uncertainty can be hard to manage at first. When the business starts making money, it is easier to plan for slow months.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research and ensure there is a growing market for what you are offering.
  2. Leverage the internet.
  3. Be passionate about your field.
