Compassionate and Progressive Care - ABA LA
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Siobhan Gadallah, Co-Owner and Clinical Director of Applied Behavior Analysis Los Angeles, located in Long Beach, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I provide behavior therapy to children with special needs and/or developmental delays.
Tell us about yourself
I'm a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) who was tired of working for large agencies that prioritize profit over client and staff success. I wanted to change the way our field is viewed by creating a BCBA-owned behavioral health practice that has a heavy emphasis on compassionate and progressive care. I continue to do what I do so that I can make impactful changes in families' lives, help children with disabilities feel heard and develop independence, as well as train future behavior analysts on how to provide progressive and compassionate care.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been my client success stories - as a behavior analyst, too often, I hear about client neglect and lack of progress. When clients share how their child is progressing and developing independence with my company, I know that I am doing it right. My biggest accomplishments will always be my students and their families.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is the responsibility. As a business owner and a behavior analyst, I am not only running a business but also providing clinical supervision. It can feel very overwhelming! Back in July of 2022, I brought on a business partner (Ji Soo Chung), who is also a BCBA. This has lightened my load significantly and forced me to open my mind to new ideas.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find a valuable partner, someone who is like-minded in their mission but has experience in things that you do not.
- Stay true to your mission statement. Ours is "people over profit," and we continue to honor that statement.
- You will only fail if you give up, keep working, and keep trying.
