What's your business, and who are your customers?

I teach Mom & Pop Landlords how to manage their rental properties, deal with tenant issues, and fill out required paperwork so that they can be confident and profitable managers. My classes are offered live and online.

Tell us about yourself

My husband and I were teenage parents who grew up in the hood of Los Angeles. We had modest jobs and struggled financially. I always worried about how we were going to save money for the next year and also for retirement. I worked in the social services field, helping people better their lives. I listened to real estate tapes on my long commute to and from work. I learned how to purchase properties without using my savings and started purchasing rental properties across the nation. Then I came to the realization that I had to learn how to manage them. I learned independently because I couldn’t find any classes and became an expert. So, I decided to create and teach classes for Mom & Pop Landlords. Hearing their stories about how much my classes have helped them run their rental properties motivates and inspires me to do the work I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

When students share with me how much their business has grown from taking my classes

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Marketing my classes is a constant struggle for me. But, once landlords find my classes and me, they are thrilled.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Setting a budget and sticking to it is the most important skill to have when running and growing a business.
Getting your business and paperwork organized is necessary for the longevity of a business.
Building a team of like-minded business owners and meeting with them regularly will keep you motivated and updated on current trends.
