Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food service but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Corey Glover, owner and CEO of SIFTandSEASON, located in Lexington, SC, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Hello everyone! My name is Corey, chef/owner of SIFTandSEASON. SIFTandSEASON is a personal chef company that caters for any event in the comfort of your home or venue. We bring the restaurant to you as we provide a 5-star dining experience and quality service while you relax and enjoy your evening with family and friends.
Tell us about yourself
Honestly, starting a personal chef business was never a thought. What started as a hobby flourished into a business after several inquiries (that I declined) from associates, family, and friends wanting me to cook for them. I eventually convinced myself to give it a shot to cook for others, and here I am! I've always loved to cook, and being creative was a natural gift of mine. Combining creativity and cooking excited me, and I wanted to express my artistry through food. So I wanted to passionately deliver a memorable experience to every person I cook/cooked for and make delicious food while doing so.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner would be that I'm pursuing something that has meaning and gives me a sense of purpose and value. It's instant gratification, and it gives me joy to cook for people. Cooking has granted me the favor to travel a lot and meet some of the most awesome people from all over the nation, which created more opportunities in return. Being genuinely happy with what you do is priceless. That in itself is a huge accomplishment to me.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a business owner, you have to be good at multi-tasking. You have to learn to manage several roles, such as being your own personal assistant, accountant, manager, etc. Those roles are key to properly structuring and running a business, and being a small business owner, it's necessary. But it's also manageable!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Change your mindset because it's required.
- Develop strategic partnerships.
- Your client is your main priority. They do not care how skilled you are. They want to know how much you care. Deliver what you promised and MORE.
