Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in web design but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sierra Janisse, Founder of Sierra Lin Design, located in Sacramento, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Sierra Lin Design, we teach visionary coaches and service providers to magnetize their dream clients through Aligned Authority Marketing--my signature framework combining branding, messaging, and funnel design. We work with clients worldwide--visionary leaders and heart-centered entrepreneurs who are passionate about making the world a better place by positively transforming the lives of their clients. From building brands and websites for 7-figure coaches, TedX speakers, best-selling authors, and course creators serving students across the globe, we've learned that all personal brands need one specific thing if they want to scale and serve more clients: to become uniquely, indisputably magnetic. And that's exactly what we help our clients do!

Tell us about yourself

I started my business as a website designer during the 2020 lockdown. When I found myself, like so many of us, stuck at home with fewer of my normal responsibilities, I asked myself: "What can I do to make the most of this time?" From there and my natural love of all things design and creative pursuits, Sierra Lin Design was born! I'm motivated each and every day by my phenomenal clients. We are selective in the projects we take on and only work with entrepreneurs who are truly working to make a big (BIG!) difference in the world. It's such an honor to be a partner in their businesses and their mission. Often, I feel that I learn more from my clients than they do from me--they are truly so inspiring!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is bringing my clients' businesses and the Sierra Lin Design brand to where they are today! I'm a big-picture thinker and obsessive planner, which means I'm always looking ahead to the next exciting challenge and goal. I've learned to remind myself to stop and celebrate our accomplishments as they come. That being said, I cannot WAIT for what's in store for us in 2023 and beyond. This is only the beginning!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing by far is that there is no way to prepare for all the challenges you will face. They just don't teach the ins and outs of running a business in school--there's so much that you are forced to learn as you go! While this forces us business owners to become flexible and foster mindful positivity, it can feel like a mountain of an uphill battle. For me, the best way to overcome these challenges has been to actively seek support in both my personal and business life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

As I said, actively seeking support is so important. I'm a perfectionist, so delegating and seeking help does NOT come easy for me. However, it's a must to avoid burnout.

Remember that you will need different types of support in different areas of your life. You will need friends or family who believe in you, encourages you, and tell you not to give up on hard days. But you will also need support from others in your specific industry to give you actionable, how-to type advice. You'll need both types of support to succeed.

And never beat yourself up for failures. I know this is easier said than done, but it's important to remember that you're in this to win the "war," not just today's "battle." I love the quote: "The road to success is paved with failure." Let this be an encouragement to never give up!
