Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jayden Broadway, founder of Shutter Vision Productions, located in Papillion, NE, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Shutter Vision Productions, we create product photography that goes further than just putting a product in front of a camera with a nice backdrop. We create content specifically designed to help small business owners elevate and maximize their online presence through content that not only drives more engagement but actually increases conversions as well. It takes a lot of time and effort to run a business. Having photography that generates a return takes a lot of stress off the shoulders of many business owners. It gives them the time back to focus on growing other aspects of their business.

Tell us about yourself

I started this photography company out of pure admiration for the whole product photography space. I love how you could change and manipulate how people perceive a product based on different sets, editing, and lighting. Plus, I am super into psychology, so it really fits my personality!

I have been in the photography industry for years but not always as a product photographer. Finding my niche, I went through different genres like family portraits, weddings, and fashion. When I finally stumbled upon commercial photography, it just stuck, so I built a production company around that passion.

What keeps me motivated is the idea that I can help other people accomplish their dreams of owning a successful business while also working on the same dream for myself. The more I help others succeed, the more I do, and I love that aspect of doing product photography.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment so far as a business owner is how many limiting beliefs I have overcome by simply sticking through all of the rough stages of starting up a business. It has really helped me to grow as an individual, and that allows me to show up as a better person for the people around me.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner, in my opinion, is uncertainty. You never know how an idea will turn out or where you'll even be 6-12 months from now, but that's also part of the fun!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Pick a market with room for growth. A fish kept in a small tank will only grow to the limits of that tank. Find a market like the ocean.
  2. Don't overthink; take action. Ready, fire, aim. You will always have time to learn from your mistakes, but you need to make them first to learn.
  3. Relax & remember to be a human. People like doing business with a real person, not a robot. It's okay not to have everything perfect!
