Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Pamela Rader, Owner of Shift Power Yoga, located in Peachland, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Shift Power Yoga offers all levels of yoga classes to everyone who walks through our doors. We hold the intention of creating connection, community, empowerment, and possibility for all of our members in a welcoming, inclusive and fun environment where students can learn, grow and thrive. Our teachers show up to serve and are committed to sharing the gifts of yoga with each and every student they are privileged to teach. Shift Power Yoga offers both 200 and 300-hour yoga teacher training programs that create powerful teachers and leaders who are up to something bigger than themselves. We are a place to belong.

Tell us about yourself

Over two decades ago, yoga radically transformed my life. Through yoga, I was able to heal and step into new levels of awareness and. possibility in my life. Starting Shift Power Yoga was a way to share the transformative power of yoga with our local community and to provide a place where people feel like they belong. I am motivated by seeing the transformative power of yoga in action each and every day. Lives are changed. People heal.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is that I continue to find ways to expand the work of yoga off the mat and into the world. I am the founder and CEO of Shift Labs Inc., which takes the power of yogic philosophy into personal development, leadership, and coaching realms. My goal is to share this incredible work with as many people as possible and to leave a legacy of love, service, and empowerment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the most difficult things as a business owner is always keeping the bigger picture and purpose in mind. When we can keep our eyes on where we are going, we won't get bogged down by small, daily challenges. When we can see a lighthouse in the distance, we know where to paddle towards.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your "Why?". Really check in with why you want to start a business. If your 'why' isn't big enough, you will likely lose heart somewhere along the way. Get connected to a purpose beyond what you are selling.
  2. Understand people. Businesses are made up of people. Customers are people. Investors are people. If you don't understand people, you don't understand business. Invest in some personal development and leadership training. If you don't know how to lead, your business won't be successful.
  3. Stop competing. When we compete with other businesses, we are focused on lack and scarcity. Keep your eyes on the prize of creating a successful business that is aligned with your vision. Cheer for the other people in the same business as you because there is room for everyone. Keep your attention on what your business is doing and where you are steering the ship!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I am now a best-selling author, multi-business owner, life coach, speaker, and yoga teacher. All of this grew out of my desire to serve in powerful ways. I believe that when we do work that aligns with our highest purpose, we will continue to grow and expand and will be guided to what's next when the time is right.
